Challenges and Perspectives in Peri-implant Soft Tissue Recon-struction – Paving the way to biological and esthetic long-term success
The structural composition and esthetic appearance of the peri-im-plant mucosa emerges continuously as one of the key points in mod-ern implant dentistry. While in the posterior area biological as-pects with a keratinized, thick and attached peri-implant mucosa are clearly in the center of interest, it is in the esthetic zone its harmonic and natural look.
Precise planning of the initial incisions, the surgical flap preparation, the flap mobilization and the final suturing technique for flap stabili-zation becomes essential to consider these aforementioned factors, presently acknowledged as significant and indisputable parameters of success. Furthermore, understanding the histologic composition of the palatal mucosa as the predestinated donor site for soft tissue au-tograft harvesting as well as understanding their biological interac-tions around teeth and implants in the course of early wound healing becomes fundamental for up to date soft tissue management and for addressing higher patients' expectations
This 2-day practical workshop goes deep into the details of contem-porary clinical concepts with regard to the handling and reconstruc-tion of the soft tissues surrounding implants. Alongside the theoreti-cal and practical fundaments, the most innovative clinical strategies will be covered and debated extensively. To this end, participants will carry out a series of practical exercises with the aid of magnifying lenses and under the careful supervision of Dr. Otto Zuhr.
Dr. O. Zuhr
Dr. Otto Zuhr enjoys a highly-regarded in-ternational reputation for his achievements in the fields of perio-dontics, peri-implantary diseases, as well as esthetic gingiva correc-tions. Dr. Zuhr studied dentistry at the Uni-versity of Aachen, Germany, and the USA. He is a specialist in periodontology and has been a board member of the German Association for Periodontics since 2007. In 2011, together with Prof. Hürzeler, he published a reference book called «Plastic-Esthetic Periodontal and Implant Surgery», which his colleagues have named «without doubt one of the most important oral surgery publications of the last years, and a must for each periodontists and implantologists.»
